2012 alPHa Annual Conference: Chaning the Conversation: a conference on moving to a new way of thinking and talking about health
For years, much of the attention in this country has been squarely on the health care system where the emphasis is on treating the sick and injured. When talking about health care, much mention is made of medicare, hospitals, doctors, disease, illness, access, and wait times, to name but a few. Now, however, there is growing recognition that society can no longer afford to limit its thinking and conversation to these downstream concepts and that it must embrace a more encompassing, positive concept of health in which the complete physical, mental and social well-being of the population is considered.
Building on the rising acknowledgement of health promotion within government and beyond, alPHa’s conference will examine ways in which public health can participate in steering the conversation away from health care and illness toward one that focuses on health and prevention. Join us in Niagara Falls where we will hear from speakers who can guide us in changing the conversation and where you can add your voice.

Occurring at a pivotal time for the environment of our planet, the International Polar Year (IPY) 2012 Conference draws international attention to the Polar Regions, global change, and related environmental, social and economic issues. 2012 Aging in Society: an Interdisciplinary Conference: Cognition in Aging
The 2012 Aging and Society: An Interdisciplinary Conference will address a range of critically important issues and themes relating to Aging and Society. 7th Putting Evidence into Practice Workshop
This three-day workshop involves a combination of plenaries, small groups sessions lead by experts in their topic area, and a fun, interactive session reinforcing key concepts learned during the workshop. Evidence-based practice involves applying evidence to clinical and policy decision making. Critical appraisal provides the tools to assess the quality of evidence in the medical literature and to determine the risks and benefits of different management strategies. Through this trans-disciplinary workshop you will work through relevant examples in order to develop skills in searching for and identifying appropriate evidence, critically appraising the evidence, and applying the evidence to your area of expertise.
